Home Staging Hints and Tips
1. What sort of person would live in your home?
You want to appeal to the widest target market possible, so your aim is to ensure people can easily imagine themselves living in your home. The following tips are not earth-shattering; they are friendly reminders to get all those little jobs you keep meaning to do, done.
2. Getting started
Who hasn’t got a pile of paperwork that is waiting to be filed or a basket of ironing that has grown over recent weeks? Now is the time to get going and do what you’ve been putting off. Having too much ‘stuff’ cluttering up surfaces can actually make your rooms look much smaller and it also inhibits buyers being able to visualise their own personal belongings in situ.
3. Keep it clean
Nothing is more off putting than a dirty home. You may be happy to clean the bath only when it really needs it; now is the time to wise up. Your home must sparkle for all viewing appointments. A clean, tidy house can actually ensure a better price is achieved for the sale of your home – it is that important.
4. Remove the obstacle course
Gates that stick and uneven paving, is not the best introduction to your home. Some people refer to these areas as ‘kerb appeal’ – you want any potential buyers to get excited as they approach your home, you don’t want them to struggle to get through the gate and then trip on the garden path before they’ve even got through the door.
5. Create a blank canvas
You may love the purple colour scheme in your bedroom; chances are most other people won’t. A neutral colour scheme will encourage buyers to visualise themselves living in your home. You can always introduce an accent colour with cushions and throws.
